BACKGROUND:

Environmental microbiologist interested in the study of the microbial ecology and the biogeochemical processes in polluted environments.  Experienced with both culture-based and molecular microbiology techniques, including novel metagenomic approaches.

Previous projects included the study of a) the diversity of attached and planktonic microbial communities across a geochemical gradient in a phenol-polluted sandstone aquifer and b) the phylogenetic and metabolic microbial diversity in arsenic-contaminated Cambodian sediments, by combining DNA-SIP and a metagenomic approach (454 pyrosequencing).
