BACKGROUND:

Dr Nick Evans trained as a Chemist at the University of Southampton. He then took an MSc in Analytical Chemistry at Loughborough University (2000), achieving a distinction, and did his PhD on “Studies on Metal ά-isosaccharinic acid complexes’ at Loughborough under the supervision of Professor Peter Warwick.  He was then appointed as a Research Associate and has worked on organic complexation in the Near Field of a Radioactive Waste Repository and on radionuclide analysis, speciation and environmental transport, publishing over 80 papers and reports.  He was appointed as a Lecturer in Radiochemistry at Loughborough in May 2007. Dr Evans participated in many European Projects such as FUNMIG  and ReCOSY. He is Honorary Secretary Radiochemistry Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He teaches Radiochemistry to undergraduates and postgraduates at Loughborough.


INTERESTS:


Dr Evans research on radiochemistry and radionuclide transport has included:
· Development of methods for the analysis of radionuclides in steels and concretes.
· Experimental design and modelling of solubility and sorption studies, column studies and diffusion experiments.
· Measurement of solubility, sorption, thermodynamic stability constants and kinetics of reactions relevant to radioactive waste disposal.
· Measuring and modelling the influence of organics (natural and anthropogenic) on radionuclide migration in the near and far-fields.
· Development and management of databases for sorption and thermodynamic data.
· Development and application of coupled-chemical transport and colloid transport models.
